    • 14 day visa available on arrival at main airports (Vientiane, Luang Prabang) or border crossings (Huay Xai, Friendship Bridge – Vientiane)

    • Vaccinations for Cholera recommended
    • Rabies? Optional – many dogs on the loose but vaccination may be necessitated only if bitten
    • Course of anti-malaria tablets
    • Anti-diarrheoa medicine
    • Simple personal first aid kit including analgesics, Band Aid, anti-septic hand wash
    • Sun block

  • Bikes
    • Mountain, hybrid or touring bike with a gearing of at least Shimano “Alivio” as a minimum
    • Front suspension not necessary but also not a hindrance and though it may make the ride more comfortable, it may make hil climbing a little more difficult
    • Clipless pedals and either mountain bike or touring shoes to make the hills easier to climb
    • If fully supported with a vehicle no need for panniers but  a handle bar bag is useful for easy access to cameras, snacks etc.
    • 2 bottle cages on the bike to carry water
    • Spare tubes, repair kit, pump, lights, bell, tyre boot
    • Cycle helmet, bandana (if you are prone to sweating or sunburn) and gloves
    • Please contact us regarding the best means of packing your bike for plane travel

  • Equipment
    • Communal tools such as track pump, pedal spanner, chain breaker, links, spokes, oil will be carried by the support vehicle
    • Personal equipment such as pocket knife, set of Allen keys, cable ties, tape
    • Petzl type head lamp for occasions when the electricity fails

  • Clothing
    • As Laos is casual and the weather benign there is little need for an extensive wardrobe. We got by with 2 sets of riding clothes – shorts (cotton or mountain biking shorts). T Shirts, socks, wearing one set in the evening and riding in them the next day, and washing a set each night
    • It is recommended that women have a (light) long-sleeved shirt, respecting the religious sensitivities of Laos when walking around the villages
    • Second pair of shoes (sneakers, sandals)
    • Sunhat, sunglasses
    • Light rain jacket

  • Travel
    • If originating in NZ, direct flight Auckland – Bangkok and (the next day) Bangkok  - Luang Prabang
    • If joining the tour from another country, meet at the check-in for the flight to Luang Prabang
