Asia Road is affiliated with Hedgehog Bikes, New Zealand’s premier family bike shop. With an interest in sports generally and bikes specifically, I set up Hedgehog Bikes 8 years ago after 25 years of corporate life working in Asia. More recently I began cycle touring through some of the countries where I had lived and worked and the interest shown by some of my customers led to the development of this website. In planning and developing Asia Road I wanted to appeal to a different kind of traveller, perhaps best summarised as: Wanting to travel to places a little off the “beaten track” and see a life very different to New Zealand Spending 90% of the days away actually cycling Who are cycling fit - there are some major climbs as well as long days (90–100 km) Mentally strong and flexible as at times the accommodation is basic at best. The rewards are to see countries such as Laos that are “undiscovered” by tourists as yet; to experience a very different culture to our own; to see spectacular scenery; and to arrive home fitter than when you left!
